This week Chris and Jordan review the Nikon 24-70mm F2.8 S for Z-mount, a lens many photographers consider to be the foundation of the 'holy trinity' of zoom
The following 100% crops show the Nikon Z 26mm f2.8 from f2.8 down to f8 compared to the Nikon Z 28mm f2.8, Z 24mm f1.8 S and Z 24-50mm f4-6.3. To eliminate focus shift I re-focussed for each crop when stopping the lens down (up to f5.6). Nikon Z 26mm f2.8 compared; 100% crop from center, APS-C/DX-corner, FF/FX-corner
6. Distortion. The previously tested Nikkor Z 24-70 mm f/4 S was criticized for limitations it imposed on the camera body when it came to distortion correction, The f/2.8 model, designed for professionals, doesn't do it and for two reasons. Firstly, it's not exactly a good idea to impose limitations when you deal with professional photographers
The Z 28mm f2.8 has 9 elements in 8 groups, the Z 24mm f1.8 S is a 12/10 design, the Z 24-50mm f4-6.3 is 11/9. Only the Z 24mm f1.8 S has Nikon’s Nano-Coating to reduce flare, glare and ghosting. Minimum object distance / maximum magnification: In manual focus I was able to get down to 0.18m (0.6ft.) distance with a maximum magnification of 1
The lens follows in the footsteps of Nikon’s not-quite-trinity Z 17-28mm f/2.8 and Z 28-75mm f/2.8 lenses, which have slightly unconventional focal ranges compared with classic trinity lenses, while still having the same fast f/2.8 aperture, yet only cost around half as much. It shares the same 67mm filter thread as these two lenses, enabling

Z 50 1.8; Z 85 1.8; Z 24-70 4; Z 105 2.8 macro; I'm now in the market for a longer-range lens, mostly for work situations (music festivals, etc., where I will be shooting from a longer distance). I have the budget for one of the following lenses but am having a hard time deciding: Z 70-200 2.8; Z 100-400 4.5-5.6
The Nikon Z 24mm f/1.8 S has a 72mm filter size, which is the same size as on the Nikon 24mm f/1.8G ED. The front element is not recessed deep inside, making it relatively easy to clean and maintain. Size-wise, the Nikon Z 24mm f/1.8 S is noticeably longer than both the 24mm f/1.4G and the 24mm f/1.8G. It is even longer than the Sigma 24mm f/1.
